CatBox 360

“There was once a very lovely, very frightened girl. She lived alone except for a nameless cat.”

These immortal words, first etched on paper by George Peppard on his manual typewriter in Breakfast At Tiffany’s, a 1961 movie, when he hears the guitar from the fire-escape on the floor below. Opening the window, looking down, he sees legend’s flower Audrey Hepburn portraying Holly Golightly singing “Moon River”. A lament sung by a woman discontented by life and her one trusted friend, a nameless cat. Now any cat can have another option than the back alley, or even being nameless: Scientists have developed The CatBox 360.

Created by Pawsitivity Games, “each time Cat steps into the automatic litter box, a new game is activated and a random music track starts to play. Colored indicators scroll down the flip-out LCD screen. As each paw scratches across the litter, it triggers the notes, and every time your cat leaves a ‘present’ in the litter box, the game enters a bonus multiplier mode for extra points. The system includes such cat-friendly tunes as Cat Scratch Fever, Stray Cat Strut, and of course, Cool for Cats.”

“The makers of the CatBox, Pawsitivity Games, say they’ve tested the device with hundreds of cats. With time, most of them start to scratch to the rhythm of the music. An unfortunate side effect, however, is that a handful of cats have started ‘doing their business’ any time they hear music playing.”

Pawsitivity Games has not announced a release date, specifications, price or whether the power source pictured as plug-in comes with a battery, solar cells or crank up model. Let’s hope that they will work on addressing those problem cats, who do their business when you turn on your stereo system, before this product is mass produced.
